FIRST PRIZE
Like a bolt of fabric, the sky
Stretched blue.
Birds threaded their songs
Through day’s dawning.
Yellow, round, the sun stitched
It’s warmth into my waking.
Treetops, spring green,
Embroidered the horizon’s edge.
Iris and daffodil, a mix of
yellow and blue,
hemmed the path to my door.
I’d never thought of God
as a seamstress before
but this quilt of a morning
would surely win first prize.
